“Big Mac: Inside the McDonalds Empire”

“Since 1955, we’ve been proud to serve the world some of its favorite food. And along the way, we’ve managed not just to live history, but create it: from drive-thru restaurants to Chicken McNuggets to college credits from Hamburger U and much more. It’s been quite the journey, and we promise this is just the beginning-we’ve got our hearts set on making more history.”

McDonalds started out with 15 cent burgers and now have apple dippers, parfaits, snack wraps, and cinnamon melts. Even though McDonalds had a down fall, they seem to keep raising and making new items each year. The restaurant has also opened up to different countries. New product, company drops, and expansion have made McDonalds what it is today.

In 2002 McDonald’s claimed that they had a quarterly loss. In the previous three and four years, McDonalds spent 4 billion on new restaurants, spending 2000 a year on new buildings. This brought down the McDonalds already existing, showing dirty stores, bad staff, and cold food. McDonalds knew they had to make a change. They first started but focusing more on the stores they have, instead of building new ones. They brought many new food items to the menu. They refreshed the food and cleaned up the stores. They were also making food to order, so the food would stay fresh and warm. By doing this, McDonalds increased their revenue again.

Who would have thought McDonald’s has a head chef.  Chef Dan Coudreaut has been with the business since 2004. In answering a question on the Q&A page about his job on the McDonalds website he says, “My key responsibility is to help the creative team of chefs ideate and develop new menus for McDonald's approximately 14,000 restaurants. We brainstorm and test hundreds of menu items each month.” His job has had much success with making new innovations. They have a lot of new products because of his team. His Idea is to keep up to date what the buy wants, and will continue this goal.

Expansion has ended McDonalds all over the world. There are McDonalds in 6 out of the 7 continents. In all different places around the McDonalds changes their menu, to satisfy the customers they are serving. This website shows the difference in the foodacross the world.

In this society McDonalds has become the “king” of fast food. It keeps growing and will continue to grow. McDonalds will still come out with new items and keep expanding to new places. Even if they have bad years, they will always keep themselves up with new ideas. Individuals were smart to open a franchise of McDonalds because they have become fairly wealthy. McDonalds is a lifting business and will keep going.

I agree with Nicole’s comment that states, “In this society McDonalds has become the “king” of fast food. It keeps growing and will continue to grow.” McDonalds is a corporate franchise that will continue to grow as our economy continues to recede and not only Americans but human beings in general become fatter and fatter. This is backed up in detail with what she says in the second to last paragraph that says, “Expansion has ended McDonalds all over the world. There are McDonalds in 6 out of the 7 continents.” For McDonalds to be on 6 of the 7 continents in the world! That is absolutely astonishing. Something interesting you could have done to add on to the piece, would be to have done research to see what continent doesn’t have a McDonalds and why. After finding that out, something you could have done would be to have figured out the obesity rating on that continent compared to America.
