Sean Coates - McDonalds

CNBC’s Big Mac: Inside the McDonald’s Empire was a real eye opener as to how such a large company works.  It has turned into much more than just hamburgers and cheeseburgers.  Ray Croc started his little burger joint hoping to make it big and it turned out to be much more of a success than anyone could have predicted.

The biggest advantage McDonalds has is that everyone is constantly on the move.  Everyone has something to do and somewhere to be.  McDonalds takes advantage of this because they make their food very quick.  No one wants to take too much time out of their busy schedules to get lunch and McDonalds provides a fast and cheap option.

The biggest problem that McDonalds faces is the growing obesity problem that the United States is facing.  McDonalds knows that they have extremely unhealthy food, so they are trying to add some healthier options to their menu.  The FDA told McDonalds that they had to show their customers the nutritional facts about all their products, so they put them on the back of the tray papers where no one can see them.  McDonalds knows they are serving unhealthy food but they believe it is up to the customer to decide what they put into their bodies.  McDonalds is only in it for the profit, not about what it does to the people that eat their food.  If everyone knew exactly how bad McDonald’s food was for you then I believe that nothing would really happen to their sales.  They have such a strong advertising campaign with Ronald McDonald, who is one of the most recognizable characters in the world.  Every kid wants to go to McDonalds and eat their food and play in the play areas.  I mean what five year old kid could ever resist going to McDonalds.

On the financial side of the company though, they are doing extremely well.  As long as people are still getting hungry then McDonalds will always be a strong fast food company.  They are selling thousands of their products every day, and making a lot of money every day.  McDonalds will be a strong and financially sound company for many years to come.

Dear Sean,
I wanted to congratulate you on writing that blog. It was very well written and to the point. I like how you just got right into in and told it how you really see it. We did have a lot of similar points so it made this blog very easy to relate to.

The one thing however i must say is that i don't understand how you could rip on such a good restaurant. I know deep down you love eating at McDonalds. I mean, after all of our hockey games when our whole team would go out to McDonalds i always would see you from the second we got off the bus and entered the restaurant till when we left, you always had a smile across your face. I've seen you pound down your fair share of big macs and i know that you do love your McDonalds. with that being said i hope you have a change of heart real soon and maybe ill take you out for a nice burger and fries.
Love Shawn
