Sean, I liked your presentation on your Dads friends company, A C Construction. It was nice to learn about a company I had never heard of before. He is a sole proprietor, which we learned about in class, this means he solely runs his business only. He must be a very self-motivated person to do this. He also has been working in business for 29 years, which means he definitely has a lot of experience and knowledge about business. He is probably a good person to know because he can teach you a lot. His business is general carpentry and he started with a small loan he received from his parents. His business has grown a lot from when it started. He provides a quality service of carpentry, but in recent years he has seen decline in business. This has happened because the economic struggle the country is facing. The service he provides has turned into a luxury with the recent recession because people don’t necessarily need to build new houses or make addition to their already built ones. To overcome this struggle Anthony provides his customers with a very high quality carpentry job to try and keep customers. I think if he wants to continue this company and turn around this struggle he might have to start working for less money. If people cant afford to use his service because of their lack of money than it would only make sense to lower prices, although it would be a shame to see this happen. His future plans are to stay in business as long as he can to provide a quality service. He is not currently looking to expand but maybe sometime in the next 10 years if business picks up. He is currently just trying to get to the next contract and work one job at a time. I like the way he is working and wish him the best of luck. The current economy is killing a lot of businesses and hopefully not his. This relates to the book because it is about an entrepreneur who is risking time and money to run a business. It is also about a sole proprietor, which is a business run by only one person.
