Both your dad, Bill Stacy, and your Uncle, Michael White, own construction businesses in MA. They both have several years in this career and love what they do. My dad, just like you uncle, started off working in the same area and then branched off to construct their own business. I believe that your business won’t be successful if you do not have full background experience in that field and you are not a people person. Both business owners feel more independent when they work on their own and have so many great ideas when they make their products. As their business grows they become more confidence and that shows through their work. Both your uncle and my dad wanted to employ people that were going to be hard workers. Having the employees that will do anything for the company and do the job right and to their best ability is a key factor when you hire people for the job. To improve the challenges of Michaels business, he should make them pay a down payment of half the cost so that they still make the income but faster so that they don’t have to wait. Both businesses are base off of clients and in order to keep them buying off you, you need to keep them happy. You can keep them happy by keep giving them the services and supplied that they need. You would not have a business if you don’t have clients so you need to put them first on your priorities. The economy is rough and by coming up with great new ideas with the pricing and sales is a way to overcome this poor economy. Marketing your product is a great way to get your name and products out there. When you love what you do every day it makes it easier to get up from a good night sleep and go to work. Both of the people we interviewed said the same thing; make sure you love what you do before making it your business. I believe that if your uncle and my dad got together, they would make beautiful works of art.

Hillary White, I really enjoyed your Small Business Interview Project. I loved how you could interview someone within your own family, you Uncle, Michael White who is the owner of Creative Cabinets. My reaction to your overall presentation was I liked that the information was easy to read, interesting to learn about and I loved your pictures, especially of different items that your immediate family owns. One point that I found interesting was that your Uncle, Michael White, went to a vocational high school and starting making cabinets then. He clearly has been making cabinets for a long time and he truly loves what he does. Your Uncle, Michael White, is an expert in his field. This reminds me of my mother; she has been in her field, exercise / gym settings, for several years as well and is quite an expert. I believe that both my mother and your Uncle have worked hard to get where they are today. Another point that I found interesting was that you Uncle, Michael White, said to make sure we do something that we love because you want to be able to wake up every morning looking forward to going to work that day. My mother said the same thing; she wanted us to learn that you should do something you love because in the end, it is not money that makes you happy, what you do every day and who you are makes you happy. If you do something you love, then you will in return be happy. I learned that your Uncle and my mother both started their own businesses. A connection to the text and to my interview was that both my mother and your Uncle used a Sole Proprietorship. “A Sole Proprietorship is a business that is owned, and usually managed, by one person.” (p. 114) I connected to your Small Business Interview Project because I saw many connections between your Uncle’s business and my mother’s business, such as strengths, goals and reasons to do what you love.

Hilary Whites PowerPoint is about Creative Cabinets. Creative Cabinets founder is her uncle, Michael White. Michael opened the business after learning at a vocational school and working for someone else for so many years. I find it very impressive he went to a vocational school, because I attended one to and that is why I am at Nichols. I took business technology and want to now open a family business or continue mine. Michael White’s business has been open for 17 years and is still growing strong. A flaw that was listed was the economy which could potentially be a very hard impact on the business. The impression I got is that he loved what he did and wanted to open up his own shop after enjoying going to work every day. Michael also said that his customer relations improved since owning his own business. Customer Relationships are such a big aspect in family owned business. If you’re not able to talk to your customers, the business may experience many bumps along the road.
