WalMart- Carter Rouleau

I was very surprised how Wal-Mart operates and buys products from wholesalers.  I did not expect a company like Wal-Mart to fight over money so much as they do.  In some cases they are only arguing about a couple pennies, which, for Wal-Mart is nothing.  Wal-Mart uses many different strategies.  One strategy that I do not think is right is how they put a really cheap product in the front so that the consumer will think that all of the products are a great deal which is not actually true.  They just put the cheap product in the front to lure in the customers.  Because of Wal-Mart, many people have lost their jobs.  Since Wal-Mart gets most of their goods from overseas, American companies struggle to compete and have to layoff their own workers.
The only people that benefit from the Wal-Mart prices are consumers, the owners of Wal-Mart, and the China.  Workers in America and small business owners might lose their jobs because Wal-Mart is too hard to compete with.  Small businesses just cannot compete with their everyday low prices.  Personally, after watching this clip I will still shop at Wal-Mart because it is cheap and you can get most of the goods you are looking for in one stop.  The consumers are the only people in America that really benefit for Wal-Mart in my eyes.  I think that Wal-Mart should think more of the economy and offer companies more money for their products than they actually do.  Wal-Mart wants to make the consumer think that they are getting the best possible deal, when actually they are trying to trick the consumer buy offering certain products at very low prices to draw a crowd of people into the store.   Wal-Mart sells their electronics at high prices just as does any other big retailer such as best buy, target, and sears.

After reading Carters blog, I agree with him very much. I am also surprised on how Wal-Mart operates and buys products from the wholesalers. He is completely right about how much Wal-Mart fights over money, when watching the video, Wal-Mart was shown to even care about a penny. As Carter said Wal-Mart makes people lose jobs, I think he is completely right. Wal-Mart takes away jobs in America to give China jobs. If Wal-Mart could only understand that if they didn't do this, maybe America wouldn't have such a bad economy. "Wal-Mart sells electronics at high prices just as does any other big retailer" he is very true, and since they get the items for very cheap, it’s not fair to the manufactures. Since China is bringing in the electronics, they may not be as good as one if bought from a US made one. People should understand this and reconsider a lot about Wal-Mart.

Carter made a very good point with the fact that he did not expect a company like Wal-Mart to fight over money as much as they truly do. I had no clue either. The company comes across as innocent and truly “looking out” for their customers, but they are not. They advertise low prices for decent quality material but it all seems to be a trick. As Carter also mentioned, one of Wal-Mart’s strategies is to lure the customer in by displaying a certain low priced item at the front of a shelf but keeping the rest of the items associated with the first one, at the regular high prices. People are tricked because they assume they are getting a deal due to the similar object’s price at the front, but they are not. Their main goal is to make the most amount of money possible no matter what extremes or schemes they have to use. The other dirty strategy they are using is outsourcing, and in particular using China. Because the Chinese have no labor laws and people will work for any amount of pay, it is easier to have them produce products at a cheap price in which Wal-Mart can sell for a higher price. This is sending American small businesses and manufacturers down the drain and out of the country. Wal-Mart is not even close to being innocent, but more like deceitful.

Carter is right about most aspects of this blog post. The whole thing about arguing over money is very true and in most cases it is over something as small as a penny. Carter says that this is nothing for a company like Wal-Mart but if you think about it in the fact that they sell millions of products, that is in reality a lot of money to give up. They sell so many products daily that a one cent increase will increase their profits immensely. Outsourcing does affect our economy but it is what Wal-Mart needs to do in order to keep the profits that tey want to stay at a very successful pace. Carter also talks about how many jobs Wal-Mart has taken away from people which is true but what about all the jobs that it has also created for others. In America, you can't please eveyone. Being such a huge company and having so many locations, Wal-Mart employs a great deal of people too. Once again, Wal-Mart being as successful as it has been has hurt a lot of people but businesses more so. Wal-Mart is a great store for the consumer however. They offer many great brands at very low prices and it offfers a place where consumers can go and feel like they just got a great deal and tht is the case becasue they usually do get that good deal.

Carter, I personally enjoyed reading your blog post on Wal-Mart. You answered all the questions correctly as well as elaborating on each. We shared a lot of key points in our blog posts such as other business' not being able to compete with the everyday low prices that Wal-Mart has to offer to their customers to keep their satisfaction at a high point consistently. Another aspect that I fully agree with in your blog post is the shipping of products overseas. That alone is making companies in America struggle to compete and come across the issue of having to lay off their own workers. That is a significant impact on the Wal-Mart Empire. You and I both agree that Wal-Mart is a great place to shop that offers low prices every day to benefit the customers each and every day. Overall, I enjoyed reading your blog post and it was well written. Great job!
