Tricia, I really enjoyed reading your PowerPoint presentation. I loved how you chose someone who is very close to you, you dad. I really thought your presentation was very interesting and informational. I thought that you’re Dad and my Uncle had some things in common. They both started out working for someone else. My uncle didn’t like working for other people so he wanted to start his own business and have people work for him. He has been very successful at it and it seems as though your Dad has been very successful in running his own business too. I thought it was interesting when you brought up the point how Home Depot wouldn’t take back your dad after he suffered from a serious neck injury because they were afraid that he would sue. I also agree with your dad saying how running a business on your own is a lot of work and you need a good team behind you to help you. You need to be very careful on who you employee. My Uncle has his son working for him and some very close friends who are practically family. And he mentioned that he doesn’t know if he could trust someone else working for him because he knows that he can be a lot harder on family then on a stranger. You father and my Uncle seems to have the same point of views on employees. Tricia also mentioned how her Dad likes to stay close with everyone that walks into his store. My uncle is the same way. Most of his clients are family, neighbors and good friends. It’s could to have a friendly relationship with some of your clients because then you can build trust. Overall I thought Tricia did a great job on her interview project about her dad. I am happy that your father continues to do what he loves by starting his own business and doing what he loves to do. Both Tricia’s Dad and my Uncle had the same advice for this class. They both mentioned how you need to do what you love in order to be successful and happy to start your own business. Overall I thought Tricia did a great job on her PowerPoint presentation on her dad.

Tricia Stacy, I really enjoyed your Small Business Interview Project. I loved how you could interview someone very personal to you, your father, Bill Stacy who is the owner of Best Tile. My reaction to this presentation was that it was to the point, very informational but also very personal to you. One point that I found very interesting was that your father, Bill Stacy, likes to work very close to his vendors, workers and anyone that walks into his business. This is very much like my mother, Andree Allaire, and her business, Allaire Fitness. My mother works very closely to everyone in her business, she employs her children as her workers and she likes to be very friendly, kind and personal to anyone who walks through her doorway. Another point that I found interesting was that your father, Bill Stacy, started his own business because of personal issues. This intrigued me because my mother, Andree Allaire, started Allaire Fitness after a family issue. I find it ironic that both my mother and your father are very involved in their businesses and they both started them on their own. While the businesses themselves may be completely different, one is a tile company and one is a fitness facility, they both are doing what they love to do. I learned that your father started his company because his past job would not take him back after he suffered from a serious neck injury. I believe that the company your father worked for was completely unethical because they were too afraid that he would possibly sue them. I am happy that your father continued to do what he loved by starting his own business and doing what he loves to do. A connection to the text and to my interview was that both my mother and your father used a Sole Proprietorship. “A Sole Proprietorship is a business that is owned, and usually managed, by one person.” (p. 114) I connected to your Small Business Interview Project on a very personal level because it reminded me greatly of my mother’s own business as well. I saw many similarities between our interviews, such as the successes, the challenges, their future goals and so much more.

While reading Tricia Stacey’s power point about Best Tile, she talked about how a man down on his luck made the best of a horrible situation. I believe that anyone who has had an injury and works and relies on their body to bring money home to their families, needs to stay healthy, or think on his or her toes. The man that Tricia interviewed got hurt after twelve years of loyal service to Home Depot. After that, he tried to come back, and the company would not take him back, in fear that he would sue if he became injured again. He became upset, and started his own company called, Best Tile. He began his business with a family run business theme, and a happy smile on his face. With good advertising he “Rose to the top!”

I really liked reading Tricia’s power point. Tricia interviewed her father, who is in the Tile Business. Tricia’s father runs a stand alone business because he likes to work close with his vendors, workers and anyone who walks in the door. Bill Stacy’s business offers ceramic, porcelain, natural stones, metal, glass, mosaics, and accent tiles. I believe Bill knows a thing or two about running a business due to his 18 years of experience. Bill got into his business after suffering a neck injury while working construction, and has worked at home depot, it is easy to say that he knew this business pretty well. Some of Bill’s successes are the way of running a company. Bill runs two stores; both are ranked Top 12 in the Company. Bill is always working on how to make his company better by coming up with new ideas. For the future, Bill plans on expanding his company as far as he can. Bill works with wholesale business which works with small businesses and houses. Bill advises the class to just keep on working hard, hire good employees who well treat customers the way you would want to be treated, and to always be fair with customers and employees. It takes a lot of hard work and determination to start a business on your own, that’s why you need to have a plan, a cause, and a good team behind you to help you out. Chapter One, Part One discusses the risk involved with starting a company, Bill took a risk because he could not go back to his old job with his back injury so he took it upon himself to do something about it and started his own business.
