My Franchise: Anytime Fitness

Antime Fitness

After taking the free online survey from franchiseexpo.com, I fell under the category that “franchising is probably not a good alternative for you.” I knew from the start that a franchise was not what I wanted to do if I became an entrepreneur. Some of the questions that I had to answer that made this clear were, I disagreed with being willing to operate the business in exact accordance with the franchisor, I disagreed with forgoing sales on new ideas and products because of franchisor restrictions, I disagreed with not feeling comfortable starting my own business, and many more. I think being alongside my mom, watching and helping her every single step to opening her own Fitness Center made me realize how a business truly works. I also understand what it takes in order to run and operate a business as well. All in all, I have realized a franchise is not what I would like to own, but if I had to choose to open a franchise I would open an Anytime Fitness.

Since I have chosen Anytime Fitness, I must assess the strengths and weaknesses of my selected franchise. I understand that franchising is a major investment and I need to be sure of the company’s financial strengths before I get involved. I also must watch for scams as well. There are four major components that I must check in order to evaluate my franchise, which are the franchise, the franchisor, the franchisee and the market. Anytime Fitness is a “proven, thriving, and recession-resilient fitness franchise.” I know fitness is the right market for me because nearly one million people join health clubs each year. This number is likely to grow as more people commit to an active lifestyle. Founders of Anytime Fitness, Chuck Runyon and Dave Mortensen are backed by more than 30 years of industry and entrepreneurial experience, and they understood that consumers were looking for convenience but they were not willing to accept substandard equipment or a lackluster environment. A trend-setting business model that allows people to work in the fitness industry as an independent business owner was needed and these founders had the knowledge to develop a 24 hour, co-ed fitness franchise. This franchise stands out because they use proprietary access software, security, and surveillance technology to secure the facility when there is reduced staff. Since the founding of Anytime Fitness, in 2002, they have become world's largest, and fastest growing, 24 hour, co-ed fitness franchise, which continues to break records and receive industry accolades. These are clearly all strengths of this franchise, Anytime Fitness.

Now that I see the strengths of Anytime Fitness, I believe the weaknesses happen when the franchiser is not involved and when the franchisee falls behind. I do not believe this would happen because Anytime Fitness offers franchisee support during all phases of club development and ongoing operations and they continually evaluate the tools and information they provide for the franchisees. Also, when a new idea or better option comes along, they implement those tools on a franchise-wide basis. My search clearly gave me a lot of information on my franchise, but I know I would want to find out more before I made the decision to open a franchise. I would be able to find more information by following the link on this website, by looking up different Anytime Fitness websites and calling the owners, and by calling or e-mailing the two founders themselves, Chuck Runyon and Dave Mortensen. All in all, while I still do not want to open up a franchise, I would want to open up my own small business like my mother, but Anytime Fitness does have some good ideas.

I thought this person did a very good job explaining and describing the franchise they choose to write about. I liked how this person incorporated their mothers business in this blog. I also liked how this person used their own opinions of whether or not they would want to be included in a franchise. I do agree with this person in some way about that topic. Only because I know that there are some negatives and positives about being part of a franchise. I liked how this person put in a lot of good facts and details about how fitness is the right market for them since over one million people join health clubs each year. This person also seems to have a goal and knows how to handle starting a business just like her mother did instead of a franchise. She had a lot of great points about starting a franchise and not starting one. This person seems like they know exactly how to handle opening a franchise if they choose to and they know most of the down sides of starting a franchise also. Overall I thought this person did a great job at researching there franchise that they choose to do and writing about the weaknesses and the strengths of a franchise.

Great choice of franchise! A gym is considerably one of the most sought out places today, especially by health buffs and those looking to get in shape. It helps one to stay fit and healthy.
